Seven Organs of Elimination & Purification Program

Liver detoxification is a common household term.  Yet most often, it only addresses the liver, and the other six organs of elimination are ignored.  These organs are equally important, and true detoxification (or purification) should always be considered when deciding to “detox.”

What are these organs?  Our lungs, lymph, liver, colon, blood, kidneys and skin.

Your liver has more than 2000 known functions, from making hormones to storing fat to control blood sugar, to filtering the wastes of just being alive.

Your lungs filter the toxins we inhale, build red blood cells, and control our ability to breath.

Your intestines and colon not only absorb vitamins and minerals, but also eliminate toxins from the foods we eat.  Eighty five percent of your immune system is in your gut, and Eighty five percent of seratonin is made in your gut. It is becoming referred to as the “Second Brain” and new research actually shows that our brain gets its signals from the gut and not the other way around.  THE SECOND BRAIN, by Dr. Michael Gershon is a great read on this subject.

The blood stream is another pathway of elimination, red blood cells carry oxygen throughout the body, white cells fight infection, LDL carries cholesterol, hormones, and essential fatty acids. HDL carries the old cells out of the body for elimination. Our vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids are transported via the blood stream.

Your lymphatic system clears bacteria, enhances immunity, and helps clear toxins of all kinds.  Without a healthy lymphatic system, we see lymphedema, lymphoma’s and cancer.  Being able to sweat is integral to good detoxification.

The kidneys are also extremely important in detoxification.  What isn’t filtered via the liver and intestinal tract gets dumped into the kidneys for elimination via our urine.  When the kidneys are taxed, we develop high blood pressure, edema, gout, and arthritis.  Blood sugar instability is extremely damaging to the kidneys.

The largest organ of elimination is our skin.  When your liver, kidneys, intestinal tract, lymph, lungs, blood are toxic, you develop rashes, psoriasis, acne, dermatitis, dandruff, hives and more.  By the time the skin is involved, you can be assured your body is very toxic.

Where, and why have we become such a toxic nation.  Our groundwater and wells show signs of pharmaceutical drugs, flushed down the toilet and leached through septic systems. Pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, are all injected and sprayed into our crops. Enviromental pollution is rampant, and we can no escape it.  The air we breath is compromised, you know the story…

We do have choices, and one of the best is to utilize Whole Food Medicines 21 Day Purification Program.  This program addresses all of our organs of elimination by utilizing cleanse capsules that contain 28 botanicals. I will teach you how to make good food choices that lower inflammation, blood sugar, address fatigue, chronic pain, and more.  You will be given a Purification kit that includes your shakes, your food plan, and supplements to assist your body back to wellness.

I am starting the next program on JANUARY 8, 2015.  We will meet at Craig Congregational Church for 4 consecutive weeks, and “clean up our act!”

Leptin Resistance & Blood sugar

Most of us know that insulin and glucose have alot to do with blood sugar.  What we aren’t being taught is the importance of leptin.  Leptin  is our bodies “satiety” hormone.  It tells us when we’re full, and our “energy” tanks have been refilled.

Leptin is secreted in most part by fat cells, in direct proportion to the amount of fat that is stored. It regulates both energy intake and expenditure, keeping the body fat levels in balance.

When we eat to many nutrient poor, empty carbohydrates, in the way of pastas, breads, grains, cakes, cookies; you know, the ones that make you “feel good” by releasing the dopamine in the brain for a very short while, only to send you into a blood sugar hangover in a matter of hours or even minutes (that “man, I’ve gotta have a nap” following lunch feeling) we become “leptin resistant.”  Our triglycerides shoot up, along with our blood sugar levels, and our body gets the signal to eat more fats because it thinks we don’t have enough fat in storage, our glucose levels go up, and we go for more carbohydrates, (empty calories) (dopamine enhancer feel good stimulators) in hopes that we’ll survive the energy shortage, and we stock pile on the fats– as adipose tissue.

This cycle continues, because now, your body thinks it needs more leptin, and needs to store more fat, because you may need more energy, unaware that your fat reserves are in overload.  Now, not only are you experiencing “leptin resistance,” but also greater “insulin resistance.”

Metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, diabetes, obesity, neuropathy, visual disturbance, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, are all related to blood sugar imbalance.

Our bodies are still designed, even after thousands of years on earth, to want to hunt and gather.  Genetically, our body still believes that we are one step away from starvation.  So we are “pre-programmed” to make sure that we have enough fat stored away so that if that next meal is postponed, or in reality, the fats we consume are empty of nutritional value- ie. low-fat, no fat, then we are going to store more fat.

Carbohydrates give our body immediate energy.  Protein gives our body sustained energy. Fats are the “go to” when we’ve used up our carbohydrates and our proteins.  When you consume large amounts of empty carbohydrates, you don’t have much for immediate energy.  Our proteins have become lean meats, we were told to cut off the fat, not eat the skin (that’s actually because of the antibiotiics and hormones that are stored in skin from what we feed the animals) so we don’t have the protein for muscle and cellular repair.  We cut out the fat, even the good fats, only to replace them with garbage oils  in the way of refined vegetable oil, margarine, “smart butter,” “I can’t believe it’s not butter” and countless other names.

So where do you start?  You know you want to get a handle on your blood sugar.  TheraFood, Whole Food Nutrition holds the key to helping you adapt a new relationship with foods that will nourish your body, mind and soul.  I can guide you in getting a handle and regaining your well being.  I will teach you what kinds of “good fats” your body needs to keep your leptin levels balanced, and help with the diagnoses that come with blood sugar imbalances.

Figuring out chronic Pain–

One of the most fascinating aspects of training to become a Whole Food Nutritional Counselor is that it has finally opened my eyes to what has been years of back pain issues. CT’s show that there are degenerative discs at C3, C4 (Cervical 3 &4) and T3, T4–(Thoraxic). C3 is our diaphragm and c4 is thyroid. My thyroid had to be removed when I was 18 because of hyperactivity. When our diaphragms don’t work right, our breathing and digestion is effected. T3 is our lungs and bronchi. I have severe pulmonary sarcoidosis- tumors in my lungs. The scarring from the tumors has left me with 46% of normal lung function. T4 is our gallbladder. Most of us know that issue…

By adapting my nutritional protocol to support my thyroid, my diaphragm, my lungs and my gallbladder- I am regaining more health daily! From being oxygen dependent to being able to put my portable tank aside some of the time– this is incredible! It is so awesome to have the pieces of a lifetime of ill health reversing itself. It’s also wonderful to not be chasing symptoms, but addressing the root causes of 30 years of chronic pain. That pain is finally starting to become controllable, and so much less– instead of opiates to control my pain, I discovered the foods that were keeping my body in a constant state of inflammation. Amazing, amazing stuff!

  • Tracie Feldhaus I am sitting here re-reading this post a month short of 2 yrs having passed since I shared this. Now as a Certified Technician in Whole Food Nutrition, I’ve been fortunate to help various clients also find their way back to better health. So much of chronic pain and inflammation is because of what we eat. The wheat, grains, pastas, the simple carbohydrates in the way of cakes, pies, cookies were so much the cause of my fibromyalgia, as well as the osteoarthritis that wracked my body constantly.
  • Tracie Feldhaus Today, as long as I stay away from the Standard American Diet (SAD), my pain is very tolerable. With sarcoidosis, my journey back to wellness is still a journey, but I just have to remind myself of how far I’ve come. Today, instead of 14 prescription drugs, I take one– a thyroid pill. Yes, there are a couple of nutritional protocols that I use to assist my body to continue to heal, and eating well is actually easy. I’m often asked if I had to give up “all the good stuff.” This means the cakes, cookies, etc— for me, they are pretty much gone. I still crave them, but I know that the price will be physical pain, and honestly, emotional pain. They really cause depression and anxiety, turning me into a major grouch.
Tracie Feldhaus Is it worth giving up these foods– ABSOLUTELY! The heart attacks stopped within a couple of weeks of starting this journey, I’m no longer lugging around an oxygen tank (rarely need it) I’ve lost 60+ pounds, and that pain, the fibromyalgia is under control. My gallbladder is relatively happy, so I’m getting the fat soluble vitamins and minerals that my body needs. My thinking is clearer, and I am slowly reintroducing exercise back into my life.
